"Sunday Silver"
Sport Biplane Class
2000 Reno National Championship
Air Races

Hi there Race Fans and Fellow Addicts,
I picked this photo for this week's Favorite Photo not because this airplane won
the race it was in, but because I like the picture. I have very little in the way
of photos of the less glamorous class of Racers, but that changed a little this year
with my trip out to the Formula 1/Sport Biplane course on Sunday Morning. One of
the problems that one runs into in this situation, is that you can't be everywhere at
once. You can spend your day on the bus just running from one race to the next, or
select the Races you want to photograph, or have a team of photographers to cover all
of the pylons. I don't have a team, so I have to be selective. Working by yourself is
challenging, but also liberating. You don't have to be responsible for coordinating a
group of people, and you can do what you want. Well, I decided to take the opportunity
to bring a taste of the other classes to you for those with interests in other than the
Unlimiteds. Yes, there are other tastes in Aircraft {;-)

Each class has it's own special attributes as far as the photos that are available. In
this light, I bring you a photo of Race #39, flown by Steve Deckard. "Magnum" caught
my eye because of the colors that the Racer is painted in. The Aircraft, a Pitts S-1-SM is
a popular aerobatic aircraft and several models of the Pitts are represented in the Sport
Biplane Class. Steve came in 6th in the Silver Race, at a speed of 162.263. Certainly
not the fastest for one reason or another, but I gotta admit, he was up there having fun
Racing his Airplane, and I wasn't. So there you go. That is a big part of why these guys
are there, and why I am doing this website. The fun of it. And, if they are lucky, they
win!
Thanks once again for visiting.
Sincerely,
The Air Race Addict
