Blast From the Past
"Nuthin' Special"
1984 National Championship Air Races

Hi there Race Fans and Fellow Air Race/Airshow Addicts,
Here's another from the Air Race Addict's archives. Race #40, "Nuthin Special".
I took this photo in 1984, (THE YEAR (until R2k) for photos for the Addict), of
this warrior from the past. In 1984, the aircraft was owned and flown by a guy
by the name of Dale Clarke, (no relation). He raced the aircraft from 84 thru 86
then sold it to a gentleman from California who painted her up in gray Royal Navy
markings. It was brought to Reno 87 by Bob Guilford but did not qualify. After it
sat for a few years under the ownership of man named Wally Fisk, and raced again
in 97 by an up and coming racer named Curt Brown. (Thanks to Brad Haskin at World
Airshow News for that little history on the aircraft). As a side note, you might
notice Furias in the background. Kind of interesting I thought.
Dale Clarke is no longer with us as he was lost in the unfortunate crash of the
first Thunder Mustang. Curt Brown has commanded several Space Shuttle Missions and
has raced at Reno a couple of times as I recall. Hopefully he will set his sights
on returning, as he is a highly skilled pilot and would fit in well at Reno as a
regular. So, that's my story and photo for this week. Please stay tuned for more.

Thanks once again for visiting.
Sincerely, Bill Clark
The Air Race Addict
