A Commentary
Obviously, due to the extremely poor light conditions,
my day in the pits didn't yield many highly sought after
photos. The quality definitely suffered in my opinion.
I will put up another gallery in the near future, of past
Reno Air Race years where the light was much better, (and
this photographer's eyes were much younger). This will give
some idea of the variety of shots that are available for the
taking, by anyone interested. The gloominess really was the
perfect stage for the accident that afternoon that took Gary
Levitz' life. It left alot of people with a huge sense of loss
and grief. But, that's racing. This sport is dangerous and
every participant knows the risk. The people that fly these
aircraft are professionals in every sense of the word. They
are there for the thrills and challenges of a demanding sport.
One should walk away from the Air Races with a feeling of awe
and respect for these men and women. This is why I go. This is
why I love this sport. This is, amazingly, what I learned after
19 trips to Reno. I knew I loved the aircraft, the colors, the
sounds, and the speed, but, I never really thought of these pilots
and crews as heroes. This year changed all that for me.
Thanks for visiting my site.
